Who We Are

CPD Crymych Cyf. (Crymych Football Club Ltd.) is the Community Benefit Society formed by local people to develop sporting and wellbeing activities in the area and to secure and safeguard the future of Tafarn Crymych Arms in Crymych, North Pembrokeshire and ensure it continues to act as a genuine community hub which benefits the local community. The pub has been for sale for some time and the current owners have decided to retire when they closed the business in September 2021 and pub has now been closed for 18 month, leaving a considerable gap in an important local service for the community.

There is no other restaurant and socialising service in the village. At a public meeting and through a series of drop -in sessions there was a very strong consensus that buying and redeveloping the Crymych Arms as a community venture would stimulate sporting and community activity, which would help reduce social isolation and improve wellbeing and would also offer economic benefits to the wider area.

Valuable information was collected via a positive response to a pledge and questionnaire which had been distributed across the community by different means; the pledge and questionnaire asked people what their priorities might be for the pub and whether they might be prepared to financially invest in the venture or support it in other ways. Following further discussions with the current owners an agreement in principle was made to purchase the property, subject to the success of the share offer to finance that purchase. The publication of the Business Plan, together with the accompanying Share Offer document, has created considerable interest within the community and those with links to the community. This vision is not simply to reopen a pub which currently stands empty, but to create a genuine, busy sporting, wellbeing community hub, encouraging all age and interest groups to come together by providing a welcoming place to develop community action plans, have a meal, have a drink and socialise, with rooms for social and special interest groups to meet and develop integrated community activities.

Opportunities will be created for volunteering in sporting activities, leading to improved health and wellbeing ideas. The use of, and access to, the Welsh language, is a key feature of local community life and learner courses will be encouraged. There are many Eco and renewable energy initiatives in the area and this topic will be actively promoted and a proactive approach will be taken to all matters relating to Zero Carbon and environmental projects.
